Analysis - Questionnaire

1) Are you interested in reading music magazines?
All 12 participates answered yes for this answer. This lets me know that my target audience would be interested in my final product and I know that their opinion on other areas of my music magazine is important.

2) What genres of music would you like to feature in the magazine?
The most popular answers for this question was indie and pop. This helps me as I know that these two types of genres are what interests my target audience most and what they enjoy listening to. I can now make sure that my target audience will be interested in reading my music magazine as these genres of music will be feature in my magazine.

3) What articles would you like the magazine to feature?
The most popular answers for this question were music charts, updates on artists and interviews. This helps me when it comes to making my music magazine as I know that my target audience would read articles that feature these topics. Therefore I will make sure that I include these features in my music magazine. Also as my target audience likes indie and pop music from question 2, I will make sure that the bands/artists, charts and interviews are from those particular genres.

4) Would you like all articles labelled on the contents pages?
Yes was the most popular answer for this question, therefore when I create my contents page for my music magazine I will know to label each article to a page so that my target audience knows exactly where to turn to, to find a specific article.

5) What would you prefer the double page spread to be?
An interview was the most popular answer for this question. When it comes to creating my double page spread for my music magazine I now know that an interview will be best as this is what my target audience would be interested in reading. As question 2 let me know that my target audience like indie and pop music I will make sure that the artist or band featured in the interview are from either of these genres.

6) How much would you pay for a music magazine?
£1 was the most popular answer for this question which I think is reasonable however if the music magazine features exclusive artists and unique information then I think that the magazine would be able to charge more for its content. Therefore I will be choosing the next popular answer which is £1.50p for the price of my magazine.

7) What Image would you expect an indie artist to look like?
The most popular answer was natural, I would agree with this as from researching into artists images looking natural is the general style I have come across. Therefore this question has helped me for when it comes to taking photos for my music magazine I know that the model will have to look natural, with minimal make-up.

8) If you were to categorise indie artists in an age type what would it be?
The overwhelming answer for this question was young, I anticipated that this would be the answer as indie is all about making a unique and individual sound therefore has made room for younger generations to create this genre. I now know that my model for the photography of my music magazine will be young.

9) Would you expect the artist to be male or female?
Male just beat female by one vote on this question which therefore shows both women and men are seen throughout this genre. I am going to use a female as my model/artist to go against usual convention of a male and be different. It will also make my music magazine stand out.

10) What instrument would you typically expect of an indie artist?
Guitar was the answer chosen by most of the participates which I foresaw as the general sound of indie is made from a guitar and is the sole base of most artists/bands sound. This has helped me in coming up with ideas for my artist when I take photos, they could be playing the guitar in one of the shots.

11) What style would you expect of an indie magazine?
Unique and understated was the two answers that were most popular. This question has helped me with my planning of my magazine and layout. I now know what my target audience will be looking for in the presentation of my magazine.
