Researching into the genre, artists and image of indie through my own findings, my target audience and existing magazines I have a good idea of how to present this in my magazine and get across to my audience that the magazine genre is indie. Which creates my brand identity.
The genre is unique and individual sounds made from a simple guitar riff and soft meaningful vocals. Typical artists of this genre for example is a band called The vaccines, below is a video from YouTube of their sound:
Another artist of this genre is Jake Bugg, below is another video from YouTube of his sound:
The image or style of indie I found was often vintage clothing also individuals of this genre do not tend to wear clothes of big brands or designer, often quaint shops for example ones found down Brick Lane.
My magazine will fit in with already existing magazines as I will make sure that the content throughout my magazine will be of artists/bands of this genre similarly to the magazine NME. This convention will appeal to my target audiences taste, which will attract them to my magazine. Furthermore, as I would like my consumers to be both male and female I will stick to the convention of neutral colours for the colour scheme of my magazine therefore avoiding gender specific colours for example pink is associated with girls, so my magazine does not lose interest. Moreover, another convention my magazine will have in common with existing magazines is to have a bank menu for my contents page as I think this makes the text look organised and again will appeal to my audience as they will be easily directed around the magazine.
The audience of my music magazine
After researching into the genre, image and artists/bands of my magazine I now know who my target audience is going to be, what they are likely to look like, where they shop, what music they listen to and what TV programmes they may be interested in.
The typical reader of my magazine would be quirky in their dress sense for example tie dye tees or polos, skinny jeans, brogues, boat shoes and dessert boots. The are likely to shop at Topshop and quaint shops which are found at places like Brick Lane. The would listen to indie music such as The Cribs, The vaccines and The Maccabees. The would also enjoy going to festivals such as reading. The TV programmes they might be interested in is Skins and This Is England.
The typical female reader of my magazine would again be quirky with their style wearing vintage dresses, high waisted shorts and skirts. The also like to have their make up quite natural and their hair isn't always perfect. The shops they would be interested in is Topshop, Miss Selfridge and boutiques down Brick Lane. They would also be interested in the same music as male readers of my magazine and the bands and artists in the genre of indie. You would also see the female readers at the same festivals and enjoy watching the same programmes as the males.
