Research - Analysing Music Magazine - Double Page Spread

This is the double page spread for the music magazine 'Q'. You immediately see that the feature is about Lady Gaga as she dominants one whole page with a striking main image, this shows her importance and power over the article and her authority throughout the magazine and music industry. The main image is of the artist naked but covering up her breasts, this resides to the audience that in this article she is laid bare with nothing to hide making the audience presume they are going to find out everything about her. The image is in black and white which gives the a vintage, classic look which ties in with the house style of the feature. Furthermore the artists facial expression is strong, looking the reader directly in the eye backing up the fact that she is not scared of telling all. The main image is also of a sexual nature due to the artist being naked which links in with the big red 'L' across the text as red connotates sex which is why that colour was specifically chosen. The 'L' stands for Lady Gaga again reinforcing her status, she is obviously a big figure in the music business. The letter 'L' also breaks up the text from looking to busy the reader may turn to the page and think reading so much is daunting therefore the red acts to distract the reader into thinking that there is not that much to read. Moreover, just like the letter 'L' two other letters are slightly bigger than the rest of the text again to keep the reader interested and to break up the page, it also is keeping in with the house style of the page showing continuity. There is a subheading at the top of the page simply titled 'Lady GAGA' from this the audience instantly know who the article is about and as it has not specifically mentioned an area or topic about the artist it backs up the main image of every bit of Lady Gaga's life is in the article. The text is presented in neat columns alongside the main image which reinstates that she is revealing as much as she is in there. Also the text is on a white background so that it is clear for the audience to read, easily establishing what the article is about, as the background and text complements the picture it is bringing the artists presence across the page entirely. As the singer is female the magazine has done well to keep the artists image and style neutral without making the article gender specific which might have led to only girls reading it if they had used a colour like pink.
Overall, I think that this double page spread is very successful as Q get across to the audience how important the artist is throughout out the well presented pages. The audience may not have seen the artist laid bare like this before or another feature like this which attracts them and keeps them interested. One criticism I would say is that maybe Q could have added a quote taken from the article above the main image as this could give the reader an idea of what the article is about as well as finding the quote interesting and immediately going on to read more.
