Research - Analysing Music Magazine - Front cover

This music magazines title and masterhead is called Vibe. The main image of this magazine is the R&B artist Chris Brown, which tells us that the target audience for this magazine is teenagers and young adults. The music magazine is also not gender specific therefore appeals to both males and females. The artists is wearing a snapback, red t-shirt (which links to the colour of the puffs on the front cover.), a belt and gold chains/jewelry these items are associated with the younger generation, again reinforcing the target audience and attracting the readers attention. The main image is taken from a low angle which makes the artist seem powerful and important as he is looking down towards the reader. Furthermore the way the artist is hunched over with his hands in his pockets is giving the persona that he has attitude reflecting his type of music. The masterhead presents the title in bold, white font which is clear for the reader to see. The artist's head masks over some of the letters showing his dominance in the magazine and in the music business, making sure that the sole focus is on him. Text down the sell lines of the magazine is either a vibrant green or white linking in with the masterhead therefore creating the colour scheme, this is very eye catching for the audience making them take notice and want to read it. This text is about other articles and information that is featured within the magazine. Moreover, the skyline also continues with the colour scheme again presenting information about the latest gossip about other celebrities including an article about the 'tragic fall' of a particular family. There also appears anchorage text giving the audience an idea of what their main article is about including a short quote from the interview. It is explaining a bit about the main image of the front cover which again is promoting Chris Brown. Two puffs are also used on the font cover in the form of a red circle linking in with the main image adverting the 'Hottest 20 R&B places on the web'. Another feature used is a barcode which is situated near the bottom of the magazine front cover, this allows for shops to scan the item in the process of a purchase.
Overall, I think that this music magazine front cover is very successful as it promotes its main article very well, through the main image and anchorage text which attracts the attention from the audience. The colour scheme is bright, bold and clear for the reader to see which again entices them in. The use of puffs are effective as the readers gets a clue of what the best and 'Hottest' features are in the magazine. The one criticism I would say about this magazine is that it could include a website on the front cover, this will be valuable in keeping the readers interested by providing them with more information online about the magazine until the next issue is released. It will also keep them updated with the latest information as it happens
